Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian and acting Deputy Prime Minister of the Afghan caretaker government Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar on Sunday highlighted the necessity to promote bilateral economic cooperation.
In a meeting in the Iranian capital Tehran, the two sides also discussed bilateral ties and regional issues of common interests, according to a stateme
nt released by the Iranian Foreign Ministry.Abdollahian voiced Iran’s readiness to improve relations with Afghanistan in the areas of economy, trade, industry and modern technologies, and to help Afghanistan pass through the present circumstances.
Baradar, for his part, said the expansion of cooperation with Iran was a “deliberate choice” of his government. Baradar said Afghanistan was interested in developing its international trade ties through Iran’s transit routes and making greater use of the capacities of the southeastern and southern Iranian ports of Chabahar and Bandar Abbas for its exports and imports.
The two sides also condemned Israeli “crimes” against Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank, according to the statement. Among other issues discussed in the meeting were those pertaining to Afghan refugees in Iran and cooperation in fighting narcotics trafficking, said the Iranian Foreign Ministry.
